Museum of Colorado Prisons in Cañon City
The museum is about a 2 hour drive from Denver, but definitely worth the trip. According to Only In Your State “A terrifying tour of this haunted prison …is not for the weak.” Featuring unsettling inmate art, and even a former gas chamber, this museum captures an unusual and slightly disturbing side of history that we don’t often see in other museums. Believed by some to be haunted, the facilities have been researched by ghost hunting teams over the years who often share the research online. Former inmates include convicted cannibal Alfred Packer and 12-year old convicted murderer Antone Woode. The goal of the museum is to preserve history by sharing artifacts that tell the story of the Colorado Prison System.
